Privacy Policy for Calc-o-mycin

Effective Date: October 26, 2023

1. Introduction

Welcome to Calc-o-mycin ("the Application"), a sophisticated pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) simulation tool. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, protect, and handle your personal and other information as part of your use of our services. Your privacy is of paramount importance to us.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information to provide and improve our service. The types of information we collect are:

  • Account Information: When you register for an account, we collect your email address and a securely hashed version of your password via Firebase Authentication. If you sign up using a third-party service like Google, we receive your name and email address from that service.
  • User-Generated Clinical Data: For the purpose of running simulations, you may input patient data, including but not limited to name, ID, weight, height, age, gender, and clinical laboratory values (e.g., serum creatinine). This data is intended to be for hypothetical, simulated patients ONLY. You are expressly prohibited from entering real Patient Health Information (PHI).
  • Digital Twin & Simulation Data: When you save a simulation, we store the input data, calculated parameters, and resulting concentration curve data in your user-specific, access-controlled area within our database. This includes the "Digital Twin" case data, which aggregates simulations for a single hypothetical case.
  • Feedback & Correspondence: If you contact us or provide feedback, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To Provide and Maintain the Service: To manage your account, provide you with access to the simulator, and enable you to save, recall, and manage your simulations and Digital Twins.
  • To Improve the Application: We may analyze aggregated, anonymized usage data to understand how our services are used, diagnose technical issues, and develop new features.
  • To Communicate With You: To respond to your inquiries, send important notices about the service, and provide support.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • Firebase & Google Cloud: Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Google Cloud Platform and managed through Firebase services (Authentication, Firestore).
  • Access Control: We utilize Firebase's robust security rules to ensure that your user-specific data (including saved simulations and Digital Twins) is only accessible by you. You can review our security rules architecture in our public documentation.
  • Data Encryption: Data is encrypted in transit (using TLS) and at rest on Google's servers.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties. This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our application (e.g., Google for cloud hosting and AI services), so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others' rights, property, or safety.

6. User Rights and Data Control

You have control over your personal information and may:

  • Access Your Data: You can view your saved simulations and Digital Twin data through the application's "History" and "Digital Twins" pages.
  • Delete Your Account: You may request the deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us. Deletion will be permanent and irreversible.

7. Disclaimer Regarding Medical Information

The data you enter into the application is processed solely to provide the simulation service requested by you. It is not used for any medical diagnosis, treatment, or clinical decision-making by us. The application is a simulation tool for educational and informational purposes only.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.

9. Contact Us

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us via the "Feedback" or "About" pages within the application.
